Report: Club are ‘very keen’ to sell defender after Tottenham approach

According to De Telegraaf, Feyenoord are now ready to cash in on Lutsharel Geertruida as Tottenham and other Premier League clubs circle over the right-back.

Over the last couple of years, Geertruida has evolved into one of the best right-backs in the Eredivisie and the 23-year-old may harbour hopes of being in the Netherlands starting lineup for this summer’s Euros.

Tottenham’s interest in the defender first came to light a week ago when Algemeen Dagblad claimed that the Lilywhites had been impressed by the player’s displays at De Kuip last season and were plotting a move for him.

It was subsequently reported by CaughOffside a couple of days ago that Arne Slot, who had replaced Jurgen Klopp at the helm at Anfield, is also keen to take the right-back to Merseyside.

Geertruida sale likely to happen this summer

De Telegraaf now say that Geertruida came close to joining RB Leipzig last summer and he is now ‘likely’ to say goodbye to Feyenoord when the transfer window opens.

The report points out that the Dutchman has just a year left on his contract which is why the Rotterdam club are ‘very keen’ to cash in on him.

Apart from Tottenham and Liverpool, the publication reveals that Arsenal have also expressed an interest in signing the full-back.

Liverpool would have an advantage in the race for Geertruida due to the Arne Slot factor but the Netherlands international might feel he is unlikely to get too many starts at Anfield ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Tottenham are clearly on the lookout for a backup right-back and left-back this summer, so it depends on whether Geertruida backs himself to really challenge Pedro Porro.

It looks likely that Tottenham are going to have to bring in another right-back this summer with Emerson Royal looking as if he will be heading out of the door.

Royal is being heavily linked with a move to AC Milan who are said to be keen to bring him to Serie A ahead of next season, while Djed Spence is in talks over joining Bologna on a permanent transfer to end his miserable time in N17.
