Report: Club could renegotiate terms of loan deal with Spurs in January

SampNews24 have claimed that Sampdoria could look to renegotiate the terms of Harry Winks’ loan deal with Tottenham amidst the midfielder’s injury struggles.

Winks has been sidelined with an ankle injury since the summer and is yet to make Sampdoria’s matchday squad this season.

Il Secolo XIX reported last week (as relayed by Football Italia) that the England international is contemplating whether to have surgery to fix the issue.

It was explained that should the 26-year-old go under the knife, he would be sidelined for three or four more months, and Sampdoria could look to send him back to North London.

SampNews24 now state that Winks is yet to make a decision on whether to have surgery or opt for more conservative treatment. In case he does have an operation, it is said that the on-loan Tottenham man will only be available in February.

The report adds that Sampdoria boss Dejan Stankovic ‘cannot wait any longer’ for Winks and wants to know if he can count on the player.

It is asserted that the midfielder would prefer to stay in Genoa and is targeting a January return but the Serie A club are ‘increasingly convinced’ that they need to renegotiate the loan deal with Spurs.

Given that Winks’ injury has proven to be more serious than initially thought, it would make sense for the two clubs to renegotiate the terms of the loan deal in January.

Sampdoria will likely want any loan fee to be based on the number of appearances and for Tottenham to cover the entirety of the midfielder’s salary until he is back in action.
