Report: Club could sell Spurs-linked South American international for £20m

According to The Independent, Blackburn Rovers could be ready to sell rumoured Tottenham target Ben Brereton Diaz for £20m this summer.

Spurs have been linked with some big-name forwards this summer, including the likes of Gabriel Jesus (Telegraph), Richarlison (UOL), Lautaro Martinez (Alfredo Pedulla, and Victor Osimhrn (Calciomercato.it).

Alasdair Gold revealed on his YouTube channel this week that the north London club also have their eye on a comparatively low-profile name in Brereton Diaz.

The Chilean international had a breakthrough season in the Championship, notching up 23 goals across the 2022/23 campaign (Transfermarkt).

The Independent have revealed that Brereton Diaz’s contract was initially due to expire this summer, but Blackburn decided to trigger the option of a one-year extension.

The Championship club are said to be keen on avoiding losing the striker for nothing next summer and could now listen to offers, rather than risk losing him for free.

The report adds that the 23-year-old forward is attracting interest from Sevilla as well as several other clubs.

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe Spurs should be aiming for a higher calibre of player than Brereton Diaz even if it is just an understudy to Harry Kane the club are after.

We have in the past that many strikers, including the likes of Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Jermaine Beckford, David Nugent and even Teemu Pukki to an extent, fail to deliver in the Premier League despite being prolific in the Championship.

Brereton Diaz’s season has all the hallmarks of a lucky purple patch, considering that almost all of his goals came in the first half of the season.
