TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed that Borussia Dortmund are now expected to launch an opening offer for Tottenham target Weston McKennie.
Multiple reports over recent weeks have reported on Tottenham’s interest in McKennie ahead of the January transfer windows (Ben Jacobs) and it appeared as if the road was clear for the North London club to raid Juve for another player, 12 months on from their acquisitions of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski (La Repubblica).
However, Tuttosport reported a few days ago that Dortmund had entered the race for the 24-year-old and suggested that the Bundesliga club had moved to the front of the queue for the USA international’s signature.
TMW have now also backed up Dortmund’s interest in the player, claiming that Antonio Conte’s men are battling the Yellow Submarine for McKennie after the German club ‘came forward’ in recent days.
The report adds that the former Schalke man’s future now ‘hangs in the balance’ and that the situation is ‘all in a flux’. TMW also assert that Dortmund ‘could soon’ launch an ‘important offer’ for McKennie.
Spurs Web Opinion
I always suspected that there was going to be interest from the Bundesliga in McKennie, given how impressive he was at Schalke prior to his switch to Turin.
While Dortmund are not going to be able to compete financially with Spurs, either in terms of the transfer fee or wages, the midfielder might be tempted by a move to Westfalenstadion as he will be moving to a familiar league and a club where he is likely to get regular game time.
