Report: Club deny player’s claim they blocked Spurs move; labelled bid ‘insufficient’

Real Sociedad have dismissed claims from William Jose that suggested the Spanish club blocked a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The striker was heavily linked with a move to North London in January of last year but a move failed to materialise (Guardian).

Amid the speculation, the Brazilian asked to be left out of Sociedad’s Copa del Rey tie against Espanyol due to wanting his future to be clarified and recently hit out at his club with his version of events (Noticias de Gipuzkoa).

Jose eventually got his move to the Premier League when he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan in January for the remainder of the season, with the Molineux outfit having the option to make the deal permanent this summer.

Wolves are yet to take up the offer to sign the 29-year-old who has since returned to Sociedad.

In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Sociedad have claimed there was only one offer received from Tottenham which was deemed to be ‘insufficient’ which led to no further contact from Daniel Levy.

After watching Jose in action for Wolves, I am glad that we didn’t manage to sign him since he struggled in his few months in the Premier League, while Carlos Vinicius did manage to find the back of the net during the rare occasion in which he played.
