The Athletic have revealed that Liverpool expect rumoured Tottenham target Caoimhin Kelleher to leave the club this summer.
Kelleher has impressed every time he has been called upon by Liverpool but the goalkeeper has found game time hard to come by at Anfield, with Alisson Becker ahead of him in the pecking order.
It was reported by The Irish Independent last month that Tottenham are eyeing the 24-year-old as an option to take over the gloves from Hugo Lloris this summer.
The report added that the Lilywhites were not alone in their admiration for the Liverpool shot-stopper, with Brighton and Brentford also alleged to have their eyes on him.
However, Jurgen Klopp subsequently played down the chances of the goalkeeper leaving the club, remarking that it would take an ‘extraordinary offer’ to prise the goalkeeper away from the Merseysiders (Daily Mail).
Kelleher expected to leave Liverpool amid Spurs links
According to The Athletic’s latest update, despite Klopp’s bullish statement, the expectation at Liverpool is that Kelleher will leave the club this summer.
The report explains that although the Reds would like to keep the Republic of Ireland international at the club as they view him as one of the best backup goalkeepers in the league, they are resigned to losing him.
This is because Kelleher feels that he is now ready to be a number one and wants to make the next step in his career.
Spurs Web Opinion
I would not be surprised if Brighton snap up Kelleher this summer and the 24-year-old would be another astute signing for the Seagulls as there is no doubt about his talent.
It is clear that Tottenham are pursuing more experienced and proven options to succeed Lloris, with David Raya seemingly the club’s top target.
