Report: Club fear that centre-back could leave amidst Tottenham interest

Mexican publication Record have claimed that Club America fear that they might soon lose centre-back Sebastian Caceres amidst interest from the likes of Tottenham.

While Caceres has been one of the standout performers in the Mexican top flight for several years, the centre-back now appears to have caught the attention of European clubs in light of his displays for the Uruguayan national side.

A few days ago, Football Insider revealed that Tottenham were impressed with the performance that the 24-year-old delivered in the 2-0 win over Brazil during the international break and are contemplating a move for him in January.

The report added that the defender is also being watched by Man United, Newcastle, Fulham and West Ham ahead of the transfer window.

Caceres expected to leave amid Tottenham interest

Record have now stated that Club America are ‘already getting the idea’ that Caceres could leave sooner rather than later, with many at the club feeling that the player’s exit is ‘not far away’

This is because the Mexican club are aware that the Uruguayan is attracting from Europe, with Tottenham and Sevilla named as the clubs who are now looking at the player.

The publication adds that as things stand, Club America have not received ‘anything formal’ but they would not be surprised if a proposal does arrive soon.

When European clubs scour the South American market, it is usually for up-and-coming starlets such as Alejo Veliz. Caceres is in a slightly different boat, already having plenty of experience under his belt, although he has not yet played at the highest level.
