Report: Club growing ‘irritated’ at Tottenham’s lack of a serious offer for player

The Guardian have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur could miss out on Djed Spence as Middlesbrough are becoming irritated by the North London club’s behaviour.

It was reported earlier this month that Spurs were confident of concluding a deal for Spence quickly (Football Insider) but the situation seems to have changed since then.

Sky Sports (Transfer centre 24/06/22 at 10:38) revealed last week that there is still a gap between the fee Tottenham are offering for Spence and Boro’s asking price.

The report added that Antonio Conte’s men had identified Lens’ Jonathan Clauss and Torino’s Wilfried Singo as potential alternatives to the England Under-21 international.

ESPN journalist James Olley subsequently revealed on Tuesday that while Spurs were leading the race for Spence, they had still not met Boro’s valuation of the youngster.

He added that the likes of Nottingham Forest and Borussia Dortmund are ready to pounce if Antonio Conte’s men are not able to agree on a deal for the right-back.

The Guardian have now claimed that Boro are ‘growing irritated’ by the lack of a serious offer from Tottenham from Spence.

The report claims that the Championship club are now ready to sell the 21-year-old to Forest instead.

This sort of negotiating tactic from Levy has burned us in the past. Let’s hope history does not repeat itself on this occasion.

Given Boro’s relatively modest asking price for Spence, I am not sure why we are trying to haggle over the deal instead of getting it done before the start of pre-season.
