Report: Club have already contacted Spurs to sign 23-year-old permanently

Caught Offside have claimed that Genoa have been pleased with Djed Spence and have already contacted Tottenham to try and hammer out a permanent deal for the right-back.

Spence has made eight Serie A appearances since joining Genoa on loan in January but has only completed 90 minutes on three occasions so far (Transfermarkt).

The full-back’s loan spell at Leeds did not go according to plan in the first half of the season but he will be hoping to get his career back on track at the Luigi Ferraris stadium.

Tottenham want to offload Djed Spence

CaughtOffside point out that a €10m (£8.5m) option to buy has been attached to the loan deal and Spurs are hoping that Genoa activate it this summer.

This is because the former Middlesbrough man is not part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans, with the Lilywhites now ready to cut their losses on the player.

Interestingly, the publication says that Genoa have now reached out to Tottenham about signing the right-back permanently, with the two clubs now said to be having regular contact over the deal.

Spurs Web Opinion

One does wonder why Genoa would need to speak to Spurs, given that there is an option to buy included in the deal. Perhaps the Serie A side want to sign Spence for a fee lower than £8.5m. Tottenham may perhaps look to use the right-back as a sweetener in their efforts to land Albert Gudmundsson.
