Report: Club hit by wave of squad illness ahead of game vs Tottenham

Football.London have revealed that Sheffield United have been hit by a wave of illness ahead of their FA Cup fifth-round tie against Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham’s hopes of finishing in the top four have been boosted by two back-to-back wins in London derbies against West Ham United and Chelsea, with the Lilywhites currently sitting four points ahead of Newcastle United, who have two games in hand.

Spurs’ attention will now shift to the FA Cup, which undoubtedly represents the club’s best chance of winning a trophy this season.

Antonio Conte’s men travel to Bramall Lane on Wednesday to take on the Blades for a place in the quarterfinal of the competition.

However, The Championship side have suffered a major blow ahead of their big showdown with Spurs, with Football.London revealing that a wave of illness is running throughout their camp.

Manager Paul Heckingbottom expressed his frustration at missing key players so close to the crunch tie and revealed that he will decide on a team based on how the players feel tomorrow.

He is quoted as saying: “Ciaran’s [Clark] ill, we’ve got illness through the camp and he’s not in today, we’ve got a few missing.

“We’ll see how everyone is tomorrow and decide a team from there. It’s frustrating. We’ve got a few bodies back and with the tight schedule, I know what type I’d have liked to pick. Players want to play.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This is obviously good news for Spurs as a full-strength Sheffield United would have been hard to beat at Bramall Lane, given how well they have been playing this season.

However, even if the Blades are missing key players for tomorrow’s clash, I do not think we can afford to take them lightly.
