Report: Club hope to get £13.2m from Tottenham for midfielder in January

According to the print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (28/12/22 as relayed by Sport Witness), Atalanta are hopeful that Tottenham Hotspur will meet their asking price for Ruslan Malinovskyi in January.

Malinovskyi has been a bit part player for Atalanta this season and his days appear to be numbered as the attacking midfielder’s current contract runs out next summer (Transfermarkt).

Fabrizio Romano told GiveMeSport earlier this week that Spurs remain interested in the Ukrainian after missing out on him in the summer but hinted that the ball is in Atalanta’s court regarding his sale.

TuttoMercatoWeb subsequently claimed on Wednesday that Antonio Conte’s men now have a clear run at the 29-year-old after Marseille withdrew from the race for the player’s signature.

Gazzetta have now asserted that Atalanta have put Malinovskyi up for sale but the Serie A club want ‘no less than €15m’ (£13.2m) for him. The report adds that Gian Piero Gasperini’s side ‘hoped’ this can be achieved through ‘a new move’ by Tottenham.

However, the publication suggests that Spurs might be looking elsewhere for a number eight, potentially knowing that they have a fallback option in Malinovskyi.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Malinovskyi was just a fallback option for Spurs back in the summer as well after moves for other players fell through late in the window. The same is likely to be the case in January as I expect the club to prioritise a move for an attacking midfielder like Weston McKennie.
