According to the print edition of AS (15/07/23 – as relayed by Sport Witness), Barcelona view Giovani Lo Celso as a realistic target and are hopeful that the good relationship they have with Tottenham will help them win the race for the midfielder.
The report states that Xavi Hernandez wanted to sign Lionel Messi for the creative midfield role but with the seven-time Ballons d’Or winner having joined Inter Miami, Barca have identified Lo Celso and Bernardo Silva as potential alternatives.
Barcelona and Tottenham are on good terms
It is explained that a deal for the Portugal international would be difficult, given the sums Manchester City are demanding but the Catalan club view the Tottenham man as a more ‘viable’ target.
In addition, the report claims that Barca have ‘optimum relations’ with Spurs, which they feel could help them in the negotiations for Lo Celso.
This report comes on the back of an update from La Vanguardia last week, suggesting that the La Liga champions are considering offering Clement Lenglet to Spurs as part of the operation to sign the Argentine midfielder.

While it is understandable that Lo Celso is attracting a lot of interest from Spain, the reality is that most La Liga clubs, including Barcelona, do not have much money to spend this summer.
I would be surprised if any of the likes of Barca, Real Betis or Villarreal are able to cough up £20m-£25m for the Argentine.
