Report: Club in early talks with Tottenham over summer deal for duo

Plymouth Herald have revealed that Plymouth Argyle have already begun conversations with Tottenham Hotspur over extending the stays of both Ashley Phillips and Alfie Devine.

Both Phillips and Devine joined the club on loan in January and both players have played a key part in helping the club secure safety in the Championship by the skin of their teeth.

While the centre-back has been a regular in the Pilgrims backline and has delivered solid displays, the attacking midfielder has been in and out of the side, having started nine matches since his move for the club (Transfermarkt).

However, Devine finished the season strongly, delivering one of his best performances in the club’s 1-0 win over Hull in their final game of the season, a result which ensured that they avoided relegation to League One.

Plymouth want Devine and Phillips back next season

According to Plymouth Herland, the club have already begun work to ensure that the Tottenham defender and midfielder return to Home Park Stadium on loan next season.

The Championship club’s director of football Neil Dewsnip has confirmed to the publication that he has already begun speaking to Spurs regarding the same.

He is quoted as saying after their win against Hull: “The loan players will obviously go back (to the parent clubs) but we are already in discussions to see if we can maybe access one or two of those to stay again next year, but we are very early in the discussions.”

Phillips and Devine could certainly do with another season of regular football out on loan but Tottenham would have to consider if they could loan the duo, Phillips in particular, to a better side, potentially a Championship side who are chasing promotion.
