Report: Club likely to sell defender Spurs and Juventus are monitoring

TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus are battling it out for Fiorentina centre-back Nikolo Milenkovic this summer.

Cristian Romero is thought to be Tottenham’s top target but the negotiations between Spurs and Atalanta have now reportedly slowed.

It was suggested earlier this week that if Atalanta do not lower their demands for Romero, the North Londoners could turn their attentions to their other centre-back targets, including Milenkovic.

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare claimed on Tuesday that a deal for the Serbian international will be relatively straightforward for Spurs to complete if they decide to abandon their pursuit of Romero.

The journalist suggested that Milenkovic could be available for a cut-price fee of around £13m.

TMW have now revealed that Tottenham and Juventus have both expressed their interest in snapping up the Fiorentina star.

The report adds that the defender is unlikely to stay put at the Artemio Franchi Stadium since he is now into the final 12 months of his current deal.

It is explained that Fiorentina were initially hoping to sell him for around €35m (£29.7m) but ‘the parameters have now changed’.

It is also suggested that the Italian would prefer to sell Milenkovic to a foreign club rather than a switch to Juventus.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Milenkovic is clearly one of the centre-backs on Paratici’s radar, it is anybody’s guess if the Serbian is the player the Spurs managing director will pursue if the deal for Cristian Romero falls through.

I am surprised, however, that no club have pushed ahead with a move for Milenkovic despite his contract situation and Fiorentina’s modest asking price.
