Report: Club made to wait, did not expect Spurs player to make Conte’s pre-season camp

Sunderland are in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over signing Troy Parrott on loan, but are being made to wait due to his unexpected inclusion in Conte’s pre-season camp (The Northern Echo).

Parrott shone during his loan spell at MK Dons last season, and Antonio Conte is currently getting his first look at the striker in pre-season.

The 20-year-old has travelled with the Tottenham squad to South Korea for pre-season and might get an opportunity to feature in their matches against Team K League select XI and Sevilla this week.

Sunderland have already signed Jack Clarke from Spurs in a permanent deal ahead of their return to the Championship on the back of the winger’s loan spell at the Stadium of Light during the second half of last season.

The Northern Echo report that the Black Cats are also keen on snapping up Parrott on loan but they might have to wait to sign the striker as his departure to South Korea was ‘unexpected’.

The report adds that should Antonio Conte make the Republic of Ireland international available on loan, Sunderland will face competition from QPR and Preston for the forward this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is understandable why Conte would want to take a close look at Parrott during pre-season. However, even if the striker impresses, he is likely to be loaned out rather than remain a part of Tottenham’s first-team squad next season. Spurs will have to be careful in ensuring the 20-year-old joins a Championship club where he will get regular game time.
