Report: Club make first contact with Spurs player’s representatives over summer exit

According to the reports in Turkey, Galatasaray have made contact with Jan Vertonghen’s representatives about a potential summer transfer.

The central defender’s contract with Tottenham runs out at the end of this month but the North Londoners are said to have tabled a short term extension until the end of the season and are said to be confident that Vertonghen will commit himself for the final nine games of the campaign (Football Insider).

However, the long-serving defender looks set to leave North London in the summer, with clubs in Italy and Spain said to be battling it out for his signature (Calcio Mercato).

Galatasaray emerged as a potential contender earlier this week with the Turkish club said to be weighing up a contract offer for the experienced stipper Milliyet).

Fotomac (via Sport Witness) now report that the Turkish giants have made their first approach over a move to the Turk Telekom Stadium this summer.

The report claims that Galatasaray are ready to offer the Spurs star a two-year contract worth €2m per year, after-tax.

I suspect Vertonghen will not be all that tempted by the €2m per year offer. Considering this is likely to be his last big contract, the centre-half certainly deserves to have a big payday.

However, money is clearly not the only consideration for the Belgian as he seemingly still want to play at the top level. The Serie A looks to be the most likely destination for Vertognhen as things stand.
