Report: Club may be open to cashing in on 23-year-old Spurs target this summer

The print edition of Record (22/03/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) has now revealed that Porto could be open to selling rumoured Tottenham target, Diogo Costa, in the summer transfer window.

Plenty of names have been put forward over the last few months as potential replacements for Hugo Lloris, including the likes of Giorgi Mamardashvili, David Raya, Robert Sanchez and Mike Maignan (Football.London).

Some Portuguese outlets have suggested over the last few weeks that Costa is one of the goalkeepers on the North London club’s wishlist (Jornal de Notícias – 09/03/23 via Sport Witness).

The 23-year-old goalkeeper has been in terrific form between the sticks for Porto since the start of last season and carried that form into last year’s World Cup with Portugal.

A Bola claimed recently that the Lilywhites have sent scouts to Estadio do Dragao to watch the youngster in action this season (15/03/23 – via SportWitness).

Record have now asserted that Porto need to raise around €50m (£44.2m) through player sales in order to rebuild their squad during the summer transfer window.

It is explained that ‘the easiest way’ for Sergio Conceicao’s men to do that would be to cash in on Costa, given the interest that the goalkeeper is generating.

Spurs Web Opinion

Costa has age on his side and could be a tempting option for all big European clubs after a goalkeeper this summer.

However, the 23-year-old will be pretty expensive and the fact that he is relatively inexperienced at the top level makes the transfer a little risky.
