Report: Club preparing to contact Spurs about transfer before end of the season

The Daily Star have revealed that Manchester United are now preparing to start negotiations with Tottenham for Harry Kane before the end of the season.

Kane, who will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer, has been heavily linked with Man Utd over the last few months (Telegraph).

However, some sources have suggested over recent weeks that the Red Devils might prioritise a deal for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen instead (Ben Jacobs – The Football Terrace).

This has now been contradicted by The Daily Star’s latest update, with the outlet stating that the Tottenham man is United’s number one target this summer as Erik Ten Hag believes the 29-year-old could turn his side into title challengers.

The report adds that United will not wait until the summer to begin talks with the Lilywhites and are now set to being discussions over an £80m deal for the England captain.

It is explained that while Daniel Levy is still hopeful that Kane can be persuaded to sign a new contract by the new head coach who replaces Antonio Conte, the centre-forward is expected to push for a move this summer.

Given the situation that Spurs find themselves in at the moment after the Paratici verdict, there is no chance that Levy will entertain any talks regarding Kane for the next couple of weeks.

United will have to wait until Tottenham have brought in a new manager (and potentially a new director of football).
