Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that Tottenham’s interest in Victor Osimhen ‘worries’ Napoli and may push them into handing him a contract extension (via Sport Witness).
The report claims that, with Harry Kane’s future up in the air, Spurs may be looking at Osimhen as a potential replacement to lead the line in North London.
As such, Napoli are said to want to hand their star striker a new contract so they can put a release clause of around €100m in it.
The report claims that Tottenham’s interest has served as the catalyst for this emergency measure by the Serie A club this summer.
After a disastrous start to his Napoli career thanks to injury, Osimhen recovered to score an impressive 10 goals in 24 Serie A matches last season (TransferMarkt).
Back in May, Osimhen was mentioned in a Sky Sports report about potential Kane replacements in North London, claiming that Spurs had been tracking the forward before he joined Napoli.
Spurs Web Opinion:
I don’t think Osimhen would sign a contract with a huge release clause as it wouldn’t really make sense for his career. However, Spurs would only ever sign him if they sold Harry Kane anyway.
