Report: Club need to make room in wage bill to sign Tottenham star

TyC Sports journalist German Garcia Grova has revealed that Fiorentina need to free up space in their wage bill to be able to sign Giovani Lo Celso.

Lo Celso is not expected to be at Tottenham for the upcoming campaign, with the midfielder playing no part in the pre-season under Antonio Conte so far.

Fiorentina have been mooted as one of the potential destinations for the former Real Betis man so far this summer (The Times).

However, reports over recent weeks have indicated that the Viola will face plenty of competition for Lo Celso’s signature, with Villarreal said to be keen on bringing him back to the club on the back of his successful loan spell at El Madrigal last year (Fabrizio Romano).

Fiorentina are also thought to be battling Serie A rivals Napoli for the midfielder (Area Napoli) while it has emerged over recent days that Spurs are willing to offer the Argentine to AS Roma as a makeweight to sign Nicolo Zaniolo (CalcioMercatoWeb).

Grova has now taken to social media to reveal that Fiorentina have already made contact with Lo Celso’s camp regarding a potential switch to the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

However, he adds that Vincenzo Italiano’s side would have to remove some of their players from their wage bill before signing the Tottenham man.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is anybody’s guess at this point where Lo Celso will end up this summer. I still think Villarreal are the midfielder’s most likely destination and I expect the La Liga club to accelerate their pursuit of the 26-year-old once they cash in on Pau Torres.
