Report: Club not in a hurry to agree centre-back deal with Tottenham

According to the print edition of Mundo Deportivo (22/7 as relayed by Sport Witness), Barcelona have no intention of speeding up Clement Lenglet’s sale to Tottenham Hotspur.

Over the last month, we at Spurs Web have continued relaying what the various Spanish outlets have reported regarding Tottenham’s pursuit of Lenglet.

Despite the likes of Sport claiming two weeks ago that the Catalan club are keen to agree a deal with the North London side soon, the defender appears no closer to sealing a permanent move to the Premier League at the moment.

Barca prepared to play the waiting game with Lenglet

Mundo Deportivo have now suggested that Barcelona do not intend on concluding Lenglet’s sale quickly as they want to see if other clubs enter the race for the centre-back.

The report states that the La Liga giants’ negotiations for the 28-year-old are ‘more advanced with Spurs’ than any other club but a deal is not imminent.

This is because Barca are waiting to see if others would be willing to offer a bigger fee for the France international than Tottenham are.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see too many other clubs being able to match the salary that Lenglet is currently earning at Barca.

So, the Catalan giants would eventually have to relax their demands and sell the player to Spurs. The longer this drags on, the more the situation plays into Tottenham’s hands.
