Report: Club now hopeful star will sign new contract amidst Spurs links

CaclioMercato have revealed that Roma are in talks to tie down Lorenzo Pellegrini to a new contract amidst interest from several clubs, including Tottenham.

The central midfielder area is thought to be one of the positions Fabio Paratici is keen on strengthening this summer.

Pellegrini is one of the names who is rumoured to be on Spurs’ radar, with reports from Italy claiming last month that the Lilywhites were ready to trigger the Italian international’s £25m release clause.

However, some sources have also suggested that Jose Mourinho sees the central midfielder as an important part of his plans and would like to see the club hand him a new deal without any release clause.

If CalcioMercato’s latest update is to be believed, Roma have taken a step towards doing just that.

The report reveals that the Giallorossi hierarchy had a productive meeting with Pellegrini’s agent last week regarding a new deal.

The club will meet with the player’s entourage again next week and it is said that the Serie A giants are hopeful of tying the 25-year-old down to a new contract.

The report adds that Mourinho’s men are keen to remove or raise Pellegrini’s release clause as soon as possible, with the likes of Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter and Juventus circling.

Spurs Web Opinion

If the talks between Roma and Pellegrini’s camp regarding a new deal are not successful, I would not be surprised if Paratici pursued the 25-year-old.

However, we will likely face competition from a whole host of clubs across the continent if the Italian international becomes available for as little as £25m.
