Report: Club now prepared to double salary of Spurs and Liverpool-linked star

Corriere Dello Sport have claimed that Fiorentina are ready to offer Tottenham target Sofyan Amrabat a substantial pay rise to convince him to stay at the club.

Given the number of big-name superstars on show at the World Cup, hardly anyone would have named Amrabat as one of the players to watch out for ahead of the tournament.

However, the 26-year-old has indeed been one of the best players on show in Qatar, with his solid displays in the middle of the park being a key reason why Morocco have progressed all the way to the quarter-finals.

Understandably, there is thought to be plenty of interest in the Fiorentina star, with Foot Mercato reporting earlier this week that Spurs, Liverpool and Inter Milan are all keen on snapping up the midfielder.

The report added that the Reds hierarchy have already spoken to the Amrabat’s representatives regarding a January switch to Anfield and are planning to have another round of talks after the World Cup.

However, Corriere have now reported that it will not be as easy to poach the Moroccan from the Artemio Franchi Stadium as it has been with some other big-name players in the recent past.

It is explained that this is because Amrabat has not expressed a desire to leave the club and Fiorentina also have the option to extend the midfielder’s current contract, which runs out in 2024, by an additional year.

The report asserts that the Viola have now sent representatives to Qatar to meet with the former Club Brugge man, with the Serie A club allegedly prepared to almost double his current €1.8m (£1.5m) per year salary.

It remains to be seen if that will be enough to convince Amrabat to stay at Fiorentina, with Corriere also revealing that Liverpool are prepared to offer the player a salary of €4m (£3.4m)

Spurs Web Opinion

One would think that the likes of Liverpool and Spurs would be willing to offer Amrabat a much more lucrative contract than the aforementioned £3m per year that Fiorentina have reportedly offered to the midfielder.

I would be surprised if the Moroccan is still at Florence by the end of January but I believe that he is more likely to end up at Liverpool than Spurs as Klopp’s men are in more desperate need of a number six.
