Report: Club ‘playing hardball’ over manager wanted by Spurs

According to a report from L’Equipe, Lille are playing hardball with rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target, Christophe Galtier.

It has been over two months since Jose Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham but the North London club look no closer to securing a replacement.

Spurs have become a bit of a laughing stock due to the manner in which they have handled their managerial pursuit, with Gennaro Gattuso being the latest coach being snubbed by the club after backlash from the fans.

It remains to be seen who Tottenham will move for next. Some reports have suggested that the club are interested in Galtier, who led Lille to a historic Ligue 1 title last season.

L’Equipe have now explained that Galtier’s entourage expected his exit to be smooth but Lille are instead digging their heels in.

It is revealed that the club are demanding compensation of €10m (£8.6m) for the 54-year-old this summer.

Whoever we now go for, be it Galtier, Ten Hag or someone else, will know that they are by no means the club’s first choice. So they might think twice before committing themselves to what looks like a difficult long-term project at Spurs.
