Report: Club prepared to offer star new bumper contract amid Spurs links

90 min have claimed that AC Milan are prepared to offer Rafael Leao a huge contract to ward off interest from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur.

Leao, who was adjudged to be the Serie A player of the year in 2021-22, has made a bright start to the campaign, with four goals and eight assists to his name so far in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Fabio Cordella, who has served as the sporting director for the likes of Budapest Honved FC and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the past, revealed earlier this month that the winger is stalling on signing a new contract with the Rossoneri (Calciomercato.it).

He added that Tottenham were one of the clubs to have offered the 23-year-old a contract.

If 90 min’s latest update is to be believed, Milan are ready to make the Portuguese international the highest-paid player in the Serie A by offering him a salary that eclipses what the likes of Dusan Vlahovic, Adrien Rabiot and Paul Pogba earn.

The report adds that the Rossoneri are looking to convince Leao that continuing to develop at the San Siro would be the best move for his career. The 23-year-old’s father is thought to be leading the contract talks with the Milan hierarchy.

Spurs Web Opinion

While there is no doubt that Tottenham would be able to offer Leao a bigger contract than Milan can, it sounds like the Serie A giants are confident of tying the forward down to a new deal.

Even if the 23-year-old does not sign a new contract, there will likely be plenty of clubs after him in January, and I do not see Spurs getting involved in a bidding war with the likes of Chelsea.
