Report: Club preparing for life without Spurs-linked defender

Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of landing Youcef Atal might may have received a boost with latest reports from France indicating that Nice are preparing for life without the full-back next season.

Spurs have been linked with a number of right-backs over the past few weeks including Max Aarons (Daily Mail) and PSG defender Thomas Meunier, with reports suggesting Jose Mourinho has personally called the Belgian to convince him to move to North London (ESPN).

Some Spurs fans on social media are not particularly excited to hear of the club’s move for Meunier.

Tottenham were linked with a move for Atal last summer (DZ Football) and a report in BILD last month claimed that the Lilywhites could return for him when the transfer market opens. However, links with Algerian international had gone quiet over recent weeks.

Le 10 Sport claim that Nice are attempting have made contact with Young Boys right-back Jordan Lotomba, who can cover both left and right full-back positons.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Atal or Max Aarons would likely be the Tottenham’s first-choice options, the club will have had to recalibrate their targets due to the financial impact of the coronavirus.

Given the limited funds that Jose has to work with this summer, he might have to prioritise some positions over others. For that reason, I can see us snapping up Meunier on a free transfer over rather than spending around £30 million on Atal or Aarons.
