Report: Club president speaks out on Tottenham-linked player

Sky Sports claimed last week that Tottenham head scout Steve Hitchin had taken an interest in Gabriel Barbosa during a trip to Brazil recently.

While Barbosa currently belongs to Inter Milan in Italy, he has failed to make much of an impact at the club and has spent the vast majority of his time out on loan.

HITC report that Barbosa scored an impressive 27goals in 53 games for Santos on loan, before bagging 35 goals in 48 games for Flamengo.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have lost their back-up striker, Fernando Llorente, as the Spaniard’s contract ran down and he chose to move away from North London on a free to Napoli.

Vincent Janssen was also sold in the summer and Pochettino does not appear to be ready to hand young Troy Parrott a senior role at the club.

Flamengo president, Rodolfo Landim, has now spoken out about the Brazilian striker, claiming that his club want to buy the player outright and they are in constant talks with Inter.

He said (CalcioMercato): “For the moment there is no news, but we are negotiating with Inter,” said Landim. “Negotiations are at a preliminary stage. Do we want to buy him outright? Yes, of course. He is doing very well for us.”

“We have been in constant contact for a few weeks, I don’t know if at the moment there is a definite appointment to close, but we are talking about it.”
