Report: Club ready to make 34-year-old Spurs man their top earner

Football Insider have revealed that Celtic are ready to make Joe Hart their highest-paid player in order to lure him to Celtic Park this summer.

Hart signed for Spurs as a free agent last summer and served as Hugo Lloris’ main understudy last season, failing to make a single Premier League appearance for the Lilywhites.

The goalkeeper has allegedly been told that he is not part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans after Tottenham completed the capture of Pierluigi Gollini on a season-long loan from Atalanta.

Reports first emerged a few days ago that Celtic had opened talks over a possible deal for Hart.

Some sources revealed that while the Scottish giants were hoping to sign the former England number one on a free transfer, Spurs were demanding a fee of around £1m for the 34-year-old, who has 12 months left to run on his contract with the Lilywhites.

Football Insider have now revealed that Celtic are ready to offer Hart a contract worth more than £35,000-a-week in the hope that it would be enough to convince the experienced shot-stopper to make the move.

That would take the Spurs man into Celtic’s top-earning bracket along with the likes of Callum McGregor and Christopher Julien.

Sky Sports reported earlier today that Hart is set to undergo a medical.

This is a good opportunity for Hart to perhaps play a couple of seasons of regular football before hanging up his boots. I expect him to push to complete the move as he likely would not want to spend next season as the third choice at Spurs.
