Report: Club ready to make opening offer for Spurs-linked forward

TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that Shaktar Donetsk are set to make an opening offer for River Plate striker Julian Alvarez, who has been linked with Tottenham in recent months.

Alvarez has been on fire at the start of the new campaign, having scored 15 goals and provided 6 assists in just 16 league appearances so far.

The centre-forward’s performances have allegedly caught the attention of the likes of Tottenham, AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa, and Sevilla.

According to previous reports from Argentina, the 21-year-old could be sold in January as River Plate might find it difficult to extend his contract, which runs out in December of 2022.

The Argentine international is thought to be valued at around €20m (£16.9m) by River Plate.

River Plate vice-president Jorge Brito said insisted last week that the club still hope to tie the youngster down to a new contract.

TMW have now revealed that Shaktar have entered the race for Alvarez are ready to make an opening bid for the striker.

The Ukrainian giants are allegedly willing to bid €20m (£16.8m) for the River Plate star but it is explained that ‘other big players in Europe’ continue to monitor the player’s situation.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Spurs are planning to bring Alvarez in, he would be likely considered a talent for the future rather than someone who is expected to make an instant impact.

So the North London club’s pursuit of the Argentine has to be independent of their pursuit of another readymade number nine in the mould of Vlahvoic.
