Report: Club refuse to negotiate over price with Spurs regarding 23-year-old

Portuguese publication Record (04/01/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) have revealed that Sporting Lisbon have no interest in negotiating with Tottenham regarding Pedro Porro and the North London club will have to pay the release clause to sign him.

There have been plenty of updates on Spurs’ pursuit of Porro over the recent days, with the latest one coming from AS, who claimed yesterday that the Lilywhites are locked in talks with Sporting regarding the 23-year-old.

The report explained that the Portuguese club were insisting that Antonio Conte’s men pay €45m (£40m) release clause for the player but the Premier League club are in no mood to do so, arguing that the fee is not in line with the value of full-backs and wing-backs in the current market.

Record have now also backed up AS’s claim regarding Sporting’s unwillingness to sell the player for a fee below his release clause.

In fact, the report adds that Ruben Amorim’s men have no intention of negotiating with Spurs regarding the Spaniard as they are in a strong financial position and do not want to lose a valuable player mid-season.

Thus, it is suggested that Tottenham would have to meet Porro’s release clause to sign him during the current transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on recent reports, it appears like Sporting are clear in their stance of not selling Porro for less than his release clause while Spurs are trying to potentially call the Portuguese club’s bluff. Perhaps, the North Londoners are hoping that the 23-year-old would push for a transfer, thus tying Sporting’s hands.
