Report: Club remain keen on 21-year-old but Spurs have ‘asked for time’

El Desmarque have claimed that Bryan Gil remains Valencia’s number one priority but Tottenham have asked for the Spanish club to wait for the time being.

Spanish journalist Hector Gomez revealed earlier this week that despite Valencia’s efforts to re-sign Gil on loan, Spurs have not given the green light for the winger to leave.

Sky Sports subsequently revealed on their live transfer blog (16 Aug, 10:15) that the former Sevilla man has impressed Antonio Conte in training and could stay put at Tottenham.

If El Desmarque’s latest update is to be believed, Gil still remains Valencia’s top target to replace Gonçalo Guedes, who has joined Wolves.

However, the report claims that Tottenham have ‘asked for time’ as the North London club are still waiting to see if another club make a lucrative offer for the 21-year-old.

It is explained that Valencia can only sign the Spain international on loan with an option to buy and that Los Che may not even be able to cover the winger’s full wages due to their financial predicament.

El Desmarque also add that Gil’s priority is to return to the Mestalla on the back of his loan spell at the club during the second half of last season.

It is said that Gennaro Guttuso’s men will turn their attention to the likes of Barcelona’s Abde Ezzalzouli, Watford’s Ignacio Pussetto and Lille’s Timothy Weah if a deal for the Spurs man does not materialise.

I fully expect Gil to be loaned out before the window closes and I would not be surprised if the winger does end up returning to Valencia, seeing as that is his preference. If Guttuso’s men did not think they were going to get the Spurs winger, they would have likely already started negotiating for other alternatives.
