Report: Club remain keen on signing Spurs man after deal collapsed in summer

La Razon have claimed that Valencia remain keen on signing Bryan Gil and will resume talks with Tottenham over a deal for the winger during the January transfer window.

Gil was heavily linked with a loan move to Valencia throughout the summer, with reports even suggesting at one point that the winger was ‘closer than ever’ to sealing a return to the La Liga club (Mundo Deportivo 23/08/22 – as relayed by SportWitness).

However, the move appeared to collapse at the last moment, with Spanish journalist Domingo Ortiz stating on deadline day that Antonio Conte’s men blocked the winger’s switch to Gennaro Gattuso’s side since they had not been able to secure a replacement.

The 21-year-old has made only one appearance for Spurs so far this season, coming off the bench for a brief cameo in the Lilywhites’ 0-0 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Tuesday.

La Razon have now claimed that Valencia are set to reignite their pursuit of Gil when the transfer window reopens.

The report asserts that the two clubs are expected to agree on a deal for the Spain international, with the former Sevilla man said to be keen on returning to the Mestalla.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that the only reason Spurs chose not to let Gil leave in the summer was their inability to sign a replacement. One would assume that the situation would be similar in January and that Conte will want another attacker brought to the club before letting the 21-year-old leave.
