Report: Club set centre-back’s asking price at £26m amid rumoured Spurs interest

According to Foot Mercato (as relayed by The Daily Express), Chelsea have now entered the race for rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Maxence Lacroix.

Fabio Paratici seems to be prioritising sorting out the team’s deficiencies at centre-back, with the North Londoners reportedly stepping up their efforts to sign Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu

Lacroix, who enjoyed an impressive debut season in German football after making the move to Wolfsburg 12 months ago, is another central defender rumoured to be in Paratici’s sights.

Previous reports from Germany have suggested that Tottenham are competing with RB Leipzig for the 21-year-old.

Foot Mercato have now revealed that Chelsea are the latest side to express their interest in Lacroix.

The report reveals that Leipzig have already had a bid of £15.4m(€18m) rejected and have decided to increase it to £17.16m (€20m).

However, Wolfsburg are said to be holding out for a fee of around £25.7m (€30m) for the Frenchman.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the sheer number of central defenders who have been linked with Spurs over the past couple of weeks, it is hard to tell who is at the top of Fabio Paratici’s wishlist.

Lacroix certainly fits the profile of a typical Tottenham signing given his age and his high ceiling but he is perhaps not the man to instantly sort our defensive problems as someone of Kounde’s quality can.
