Report: Club set to ‘make last desperate attempt’ to sign Tottenham player

Corriere dello Sport have reported that Salernitana will ‘make a last desperate attempt’ to sign Pape Matar Sarr from Tottenham in the January transfer window (11/01/23 – via SportWitness).

The same report goes on to say that Antonio Conte has ‘repeatedly reiterated’ his wish to keep the Senegal international in North London for the rest of the campaign.

Conte has used Sarr far more readily over the past two weeks, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma both missing multiple games. The midfielder started the FA Cup match against Portsmouth and impressed, while also coming off the bench in the two previous Premier League games.

This latest report comes after La Citta di Salerno (09/01/23 as translated by Sport Witness) claimed Salernitana are concerned that Conte could block a loan Sarr, which is seemingly reinforced by Corriere dello Sport.

CalcioMercato were among the first to report that the Serie A club had contacted Tottenham about such a loan move.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Keeping Sarr around the squad perhaps makes sense now for the rest of the season, just in case of injuries. Or Spurs could look to loan him to a Premier League side, where a recall would be pretty simple if needed.
