Report: Club set to step up efforts to sign Spurs star after selling player

According to talkSPORT, Ajax are set to push ahead with their pursuit of Steven Bergwijn after selling David Neres.

Tottenham are reportedly looking to cash in on Bergwijn before the end of the month.

Ajax are thought to have expressed an interest in bringing the winger back to the Eredivisie and are in talks with the North London club regarding a deal.

Sources have claimed that an opening £15m offer from Dutch club has been turned down by Spurs, with Erik Ten Hag’s side allegedly intent on making a second offer of around £20m.

90 min claimed last week that the Eredivisie giants could face competition from Newcastle United for Bergwijn, with Eddie Howe said to be keen on attacking reinforcements this month.

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte has continued to maintain that the 24-year-old is part of his plans.

If talkSPORT’s latest update is to be believed, Ajax are now ready to step up their pursuit of the Tottenham man. The report asserts that the Dutch club are ready to push ahead with a deal for Bergwijn after Neres completed a move to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite so many sources suggesting that Tottenham want to cash in on Bergwijn, I would not be surprised if the Dutchman ended up staying.

Unless Tottenham sign an attacker this month (which they do not look close to doing at the moment), I do not see why Conte would want to let Bergwijn leave.
