Report: Club suggest they have upgraded on player who has joined Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur were active in the summer transfer window after fans had to endure the previous two windows with no activity.

On transfer deadline day, Spurs moved to bring in Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham while Giovani Lo Celso joined on a season-long loan deal from Real Betis with the option to make the move permanent (Spurs official).

Lo Celso caught the eye in Spain last season having scored 16 goals in 45 games for the club, including nine in La Liga (Metro).

Betis moved for Lyon’s Nabil Fekir to help fill the midfield void left by Lo Celso, ironically another player who Tottenham have previously been linked with (La Parisien).

Their vice president Jose Miguel Lopez Catalan has claimed that Fekir is an upgrade on Lo Celso and also hinted that the 23-year-old will not be returning to his current employer.

Fekir has certainly hit the ground running in Spain having already scored two goals in three La Liga appearances (transfermarkt).

“Last year Betis were renowned for a solid midfield, we’ve retained the bulk of these players with Fekir taking Lo Celso’s place,” Catalan told AS.

“I’d say the French player is at the same level or even better than the Argentine.”
