Report: Club now value Tottenham-linked forward at £17m

In a potential boost to Tottenham in their rumoured pursuit of Argentine starlet, Julian Alvarez, Calciomercato have revealed that River Plate have slashed the forward’s asking price.

Alvarez has been on fire at the start of the new campaign, having scored seven goals and registered eight assists in just 11 league appearances.

The centre-forward’s performances have allegedly caught the attention of the likes of Tottenham, AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa, and Sevilla.

Argentine publication TYC Sport reported earlier this week that the 21-year-old could be sold in January as River Plate might find it difficult to extend his contract.

The report further added that Bayer Leverkusen was leading the race for the forward, who was valued at €25m (£21.3m) by River Plate.

However, CalcioMercato’s latest report states that €20m (£16.9m) will be ‘enough’ to prise Alverez away from the Argentine club in January.

The report also adds that Inter Milan have entered the race for the striker, seeing it as a good market ‘opportunity’, while their cross-City rivals, AC Milan, are also interested.

Spurs Web Opinion

River Plate will likely be looking to get a bidding war going in order to get as big a fee as possible. I would not mind if Spurs missed out on Alvarez as I believe it is always a huge risk to buy players straight from South American football.
