Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Barcelona wish to resolve Clement Lenglet’s future by the end of this week.
There have been mixed reports over the past few days regarding whether Tottenham Hotspur are expected to sign Lenglet on a permanent basis this summer.
Lenglet moved to Tottenham on loan in July of last year for the duration of the 2022/2023 campaign in what was a busy window of activity for what many hoped for a season of further progression under Antonio Conte.
Speaking to the Last Word On Spurs YouTube channel, The Telegraph journalist Matt Law said last Friday that there is a good chance Spurs will decide against pursuing the Frenchman this summer.
However, this was contradicted by Diario Sport the very next day, with the publication claiming that Spurs had expressed an interest in signing bringing the central defender to the club permanently.
The report claimed that Barcelona could allow the 27-year-old to join the Lilywhites for a cut-price fee of just £5m since they wish to get the player off their wage bill.
Barcelona want Lenglet gone as soon as possible
If Mundo Deportivo’s latest update is to be believed, Barca will try to address Lenglet’s future this week and wish to find a new club for the defender over the coming days.
The publication states that the negotiations with Tottenham are at an ‘advanced’ state, and asserts that the Catalan giants could quote a fee of around €10m-€15m (£8.6m-£12.9m) for the former Sevilla star.
Spurs Web Opinion
While the general consensus among Spurs fans on social media appears to be that Lenglet is not good enough, I actually believe that the deal would be a no-brainer for Tottenham at the above price.
The whole squad cannot be revamped in just one summer and I would not mind if Lenglet stayed as a squad player for one more season.
