Report: Club will ‘block’ January move for Tottenham and Liverpool target

Firenze Viola have revealed that Fiorentina are determined not to let Sofyan Amrabat leave in January despite Tottenham’s interest in the central midfielder.

Amrabat has been one of the best players on show at the World Cup so far and has been the main driving force behind Morocco’s shock run to the semi-finals of the competition.

It has thus come as no surprise that the midfielder is being eyed by several clubs across Europe, with Foot Mercato reporting earlier this month that Spurs, Liverpool and Inter Milan have expressed an interest in the 26-year-old.

Reporting a couple of days ago, Relevo backed up the interest of the two aforementioned Premier League clubs in the Moroccan, and revealed that Fiorentina want €40m (£34.3m) for the player in January.

Firenze Viola have become the latest publication to confirm that Spurs and Liverpool are keen on Amarabat, and they add that Atletico Madrid also have their eye on the midfielder.

However, the publication asserts that the Fiorentina hierarchy intend to ‘block’ the midfielder from moving in January. It is explained that the Serie A club are quite relaxed about the situation as they have the option to extend Amrabat’s contract by one year (until 2025).

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not convinced that Tottenham will be in the market for a defensive midfielder in January. So, if Fiorentina are planning to hold on to Amrabat until next summer, that could actually work to our advantage. However, I would personally be surprised if the 26-year-old is still at the Artemio Franchi Stadium by the end of January.
