Report: Club ‘working on beating Tottenham’ to Croatian midfielder

Football Insider have claimed that Rangers are working on beating Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Croatian starlet Ivan Lepinjica.

Lepinjica has come on considerably as a player since making his debut for HNK Rijeka in the Croatian top-flight three years ago.

The defensive midfielder has become one of the club’s linchpins and were it not for the injuries he suffered last season, he could have made Croatia’s squad for the European Championship.

Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham are one of several Premier League sides to show interest in Lepinjica.

The report claims that the North London club also tried to sign the 21-year-old last summer and while it is not explained why the deal not materialise, it is stated that several English clubs have been put off by the youngster’s injury record.

The door is thus said to have been opened for Rangers to push through a deal for Lepinjica. The Scottish champions will allegedly sign the midfielder on an initial loan deal with an option to buy him permanently.

If we do sell Sissoko this summer, we might be in need of reinforcements in holding midfield. However, Skipp also needs to play at least 20 matches next season in order to continue his development. So, it will be interesting to see whether the club decides to sign reinforcements in the position and loan Skipp out again or whether they decide to put faith in the youngster.
