Report: Conte asks Paratici to push for 20-year-old midfielder who fits Spurs’ system

Antonio Conte has asked Fabio Paratici to pursue a deal to bring Roma midfielder Nicola Zalewski to Tottenham, according to CalcioMercato.

The Italian coach is said to be an admirer of the 20-year-old and has urged Paratici to press ahead with a deal, having been convinced he would suit his current system at Spurs.

However, the report adds Spurs face significant competition from Paris Saint-Germain, while Roma previously turned down approaches from Sampdoria, Cagliari and others in January.

Coming through the youth ranks at Roma, Zalewski enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Giallorossi in the second half of last term.

The Poland international made 23 appearances for the Europa Conference League holders with Jose Mourinho often deploying him at left midfield (Transfermarkt).

Despite being born in Italy, Zalewski opted to play for Poland and is already a full international with five caps to his name.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even though Spurs have strengthened their wide options on the left this summer, it doesn’t look like Conte wants to stop there.

Zalewski is interesting as he hasn’t been in senior football for too long, but the fact a manager like Mourinho trusted him for a decent portion of last season is promising.
