Report: Conte cannot wait to have young defender at Tottenham

Tuttosport have claimed that Antonio Conte is ‘rubbing his hands together’ at the prospect of working with Destiny Udogie next season.

Tottenham snapped up Udogie this summer on the back of the wing-back’s breakthrough season at Udinese and loaned him back to the Italian club for the 2021-22 campaign.

The decision already seems like a masterstroke, with the 19-year-old starting the season in impressive form for Andrea Sottil’s side. Calcio Mercato even recently named the on-loan Tottenham man among the top five fullbacks in Serie A.

It has also emerged over recent weeks that Spurs saw off competition from the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus for Udogie’s signature over the summer (TuttoMercatoWeb).

Tuttosport have now revealed that the teenager’s impressive performances this season have not gone unnoticed by Conte, who is said to be ‘rubbing his hands together’ at the prospect of having him in his squad next season.

The report adds that the Spurs boss is particularly encouraged since Udogie has looked accomplished both defensively as well as going forward.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Udogie does return to Spurs next summer, it will be interesting to see who the Italian will replace among Perisic and Sessegnon. My gut feeling is that the Lilywhites will prefer to let Udogie have another loan spell away from the club next season so that he could replace Perisic in 2024.
