Report: Conte has asked Spurs hierarchy to sign 23-year-old PL star

CalcioMercatoWeb.it have claimed that Antonio Conte has asked the Tottenham hierarchy to complete a deal for Alexis Mac Allister in January.

Mac Allister was among the players whose stock grew substantially during the World Cup, with the central midfielder playing a key role in Argentina’s march to the title.

Tottenham’s interest in the 23-year-old first came to light last week when Italian outlet L’Interista reported Antonio Conte’s men were closely watching the player.

The report added that the Lilywhites face competition from the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus and Atletico Madrid for the Brighton star.

CMW.it have now backed up Spurs’ interest in Mac Allister, revealing that Conte had ‘good impressions’ of the midfielder when his side came up against Seagulls in the Premier League, and those were confirmed by his showing in Qatar.

The report adds that Tottenham had started ‘exploratory polls’ for the Argentine weeks ago as the North London club aim to press the accelerator in the move.

CMW.it state that Juventus and inter have also tested the waters for Mac Allister but Conte has asked the Spurs hierarchy to snap up the midfielder in January. It is asserted that Roberto De Zerbi’s men value the former Boca Juniors star at €35m (£30.6m).

Spurs Web Opinion

Mac Allister would be a better fit for Spurs than Sofyan Amrabat because the former can be used as an eight in a 3-5-2 while the Moroccan can only play as a six.

However, I do not think Brighton would consider selling the Argentine for just £30m, given that his current deal at the Amex runs until 2025 and the club have an option of extending it by another year (Transfermarkt).
