Report: Conte has asked Tottenham to sign 37-year-old as free agent

According to Sport Italia journalist Rudi Galetti, Antonio Conte wants to bring Inter Milan goalkeeper Samir Handanovic to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

There remains a question mark over Lloris’ future at Tottenham, with the goalkeeper’s contract running out at the end of the season.

Reports have indicated that the Frenchman has an offer from his boyhood club, Nice, but other sources have suggested Spurs expect their captain to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Antonio Conte has insisted that Lloris is part of his plans and he is not worried about the 35-year-old’s contract situation.

Handanovic, who Conte worked with at Inter, is also into the final six months of his contract at the San Siro. The Nerrazui are also now thought to be on the verge of completing the signing of Ajax goalkeeper Andrea Onana.

Galetti has taken to social media to explain that the Cameroonian’s arrival means Handanovic can leave Inter at the end of the season as a free agent.

The journalist revealed Conte has asked the Tottenham hierarchy to snap up the experienced goalkeeper in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Conte does want to bring Handanovic to Spurs, I suspect the Tottenham boss wants the Slovenian as a potential backup to Lloris rather than as first-choice.

I get the feeling that Conte and his coaching staff do not really rate Pierluigi Gollini too highly. I also remain confident that Lloris will put pen to paper on a new contract with Spurs over the coming weeks or months.
