Report: Conte has been a long-term admirer of Roma defender – Spurs interested

According to CalcioMercato, Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs interested in AS Roma centre-back Roger Ibanez.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reported earlier this month that Conte is seeking to bring two central defenders to Spurs this summer, particularly if Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez depart.

While the journalist revealed that the likes of Alessandro Bastoni, Pau Torres, Clement Lenglet, Marc Guehi and Gleison Bremer were on the club’s radar, CalcioMercato have now put a new name forward in the form of Ibanez.

The 23-year-old was a mainstay in Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven through the 2021/22 campaign and played a valued role in the club’s Europa Conference League triumph.

CalcioMercato claim that despite Ibanez’s impressive displays last season, Roma are not opposed to selling him, and are ready to move for Feyenoord’s Marcos Senesi should the Italian depart.

Conte is said to be a long-term admirer of the defender, who is thought to be valued by the Giallorossi at €30m (£25.5m).

The report adds that Newcastle United have been the first club to express a ‘concrete interest’ in Ibanez this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Just because Conte is a fan of Ibanez, does not necessarily mean that the 23-year-old is likely to be on Tottenham’s wishlist this summer.

However, apart from a left centre-back, Spurs also need another defender to cover for the central sweeper and right centre-back roles, with Sanchez and Rodon potentially on their way out.

Paratici and Conte will likely look towards the Serie A to fill that gap and Ibanez may fit the requirements.
