Report: Conte has ‘contacted’ his former player about possible Spurs move

According to El Deportivo, Antonio Conte has contacted Arturo Vidal over possibly reuniting with him at Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

Conte managed Vidal at both Juventus and Inter Milan, with the Italian signing the midfielder at both clubs.

Vidal had a series of injury problems during his one season with Conte at the San Siro, which prevented him from getting much game time.

Despite being fit for the majority of this campaign, the 34-year-old has found himself continuing to struggle for minutes under Simone Inzaghi (Transfermarkt).

El Deportivo claim that Vidal’s decision to leave Inter at the end of the season is ‘practically made’ due to his lack of game time.

The report explains that although the Serie A club have the option to extend Vidal’s contract, which runs out in the summer, by another 12 months, the midfielder is determined to seek a new club at the end of the season.

A move to Spurs is thought to be appealing to the former Barcelona man, who said to have always harboured a dream of playing in the Premier League.

The report claims that Conte contacted those close to the player to find out his availability in the summer.

It is stated that Vidal is also expected to have offers from Galatasaray and Marseille at the end of the season.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect this speculation has purely arisen from the Conte connection rather than being based on anything concrete. While Vidal would have been a good option a couple of years ago, at 34 years of age, he no longer fits the profile of players Spurs are likely to go for as part of their rebuild.
