Report: Conte has lost confidence and trust in 26-year-old Spurs player

Marca Colombia have revealed that Antonio Conte’s trust in Davinson Sanchez has been completely eroded in light of the centre-back’s displays this season.

Sanchez has been handed a few opportunities this campaign due to the injuries to Cristian Romero but the Colombian has often failed to convince.

In fact, in the last few matches prior to the mid-season break, Conte decided to move Eric Dier to the right centre-back role and played Clement Lenglet through the middle, which perhaps hinted at his lack of trust in Sanchez.

Marca now state that the Spurs boss has ‘lost all the trust placed’ in the Colombian international and has ‘little confidence in him’. The report asserts that the 26-year-old is not likely to get too many minutes this season if he remains at the North London club.

It is explained that Conte has been particularly disappointed about a couple of aspects of Sanchez’s game, including his ability on the ball and his lack of recovery pace.

Conte’s system relies on the wide centre-backs being good on the ball and we thus suffer immensely when Sanchez plays instead of Romero. I would not be surprised if the Colombian was moved on in January along with Japhet Tanganga as I expect Spurs to be in the market for a right-sided centre-back.
