Report: Conte in contact with midfielder who ‘won’t continue’ with Serie A club

Antonio Conte has contacted Arturo Vidal’s camp over a potential move to Tottenham with the midfielder reportedly deciding to leave Inter Milan, according to La Tercera (via Sport Witness).

Vidal, who is approaching the age of 35 this summer, has seen his role at Inter diminish under manager Simone Inzaghi who has sided with other options ahead of the Chile international.

Although he has made 31 appearances this season, he has secured just one starting berth in Serie A with most of his minutes coming from cameos off the bench (Transfermarkt).

Vidal did start in Inter’s 1-0 win over Liverpool in the Champions League last 16-second leg, but couldn’t push his side into securing a result good enough to advance to the quarter-finals.

And the Italian giants’ exit could have implications on his future at the club according to La Tercera, who report that he has decided on an exit from San Siro on the back of it being his final chance at winning the tournament.

The report goes onto state that Conte has already contacted the player’s entourage about a potential move.

However, the north London side could face competition from Turkish Super League side Galatasaray, who would be willing to make a significant offer to Vidal in order to secure his services this summer.

Vidal just does not seem like the right profile for Spurs considering his age and is not exactly a long-term solution for what the club needs. He is experienced and has had a very decorated career, but this won’t be a player that the club will necessarily want to pursue.
