Report: Antonio Conte is club’s top target for next summer – Not Juventus

Roma Giallorossa have now claimed that AS Roma will turn to Antonio Conte to replace Jose Mourinho should the special one take over as Portugal’s next manager.

Conte’s future at Tottenham seems to be up in the air, with The Athletic reporting a few days ago that some sources close to key figures at Spurs are now less optimistic that the Italian will sign a new contract at the club.

The 53-year-old brushed aside questions about his future in his press conference on Friday, insisting that he is happy at the club and is in dialogue with the club’s hierarchy (Football London).

Roma Giallorossa have now revealed that the Giallorossi could look to snap up the Tottenham head coach at the end of the season. The report explains that Portugal have contacted Mourinho regarding the national job and that the former Spurs boss is expected to give an answer after Christmas.

It is asserted that Mourinho wishes to accept the job and that he is expected to assume a dual role as both Portugal and Roma boss for the next six months before leaving the Stadio Olimpico at the end of the season.

Roma Giallorossa state that the Serie A club’s hierarchy are now looking for replacements for the 59-year-old, with Conte said to be in ‘pole positon’.

The report states that although Rome have not initiated contact with the Spurs boss yet, they could do so over the coming months as his future in North London ‘is not yet clear’.

If Conte and Spurs do decide to part ways at the end of the season, the Italian will probably get bigger offers than Roma. It is quite likely that he will be Juventus’ top target for next summer.

However, there is a long way to go until then and his future at Tottenham could depend on several factors including the club’s spending in January and how the team performs in the second part of the campaign.
