Report: Conte not expected to be ‘given a fortune to spend’ in January

The Telegraph have revealed that Antonio Conte will not be given a fortune to spend by Tottenham in the January transfer window.

After Conte was confirmed as Nuno Espirito Santo’s replacement on Tuesday, it was reported that the Italian has been promised a £150m war chest in January.

Calciomercato.it even claimed the 52-year-old made specific requests in terms of transfer targets including the likes of Marcelo Brozovic, Stefan de Vrij, and Alessio Romagnoli.

However, The Telegraph have suggested that while money will be made available to spend for the new Spurs boss, the club might need to raise cash through player sales to secure some of their targets.

The report adds that two players who Conte could be eyeing within Tottenham’s budget are Fiorentina forward Dusan Vlahovic and AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.

It is explained that Kessie, whose contract at Milan expires at the end of the season, is keen on a move to the Premier League.

It is stated that Conte will work closely on transfers with Spurs’ managing director of football, Fabio Paratici.

Spurs Web Opinion

One would expect at least two or three outgoings in January (potentially the likes of Winks, Dele and Sanchez). So, we could possibly raise some cash for transfers.

However, selling deadwood is notoriously difficult in January. So, it will certainly be interesting to see how things play out.
